UK Gamekeeping & Hunting with Charlie Jacoby
Monday May 17, 2021
Monday May 17, 2021
As many of you know, Into The Wild has discussed hunting on the show before & we have discussed bird crime in the UK. It may surprise you to know that I also sometimes get DM's calling me biased due to the guests I have on my show (LOL) SO because of that, I thought, heck, why not talk to a hunter too? So where we go, on this episode I speak with Charlie Jacoby from Fieldsports TV about Gamekeeping & Hunting in the UK.
I took this opportunity to ask Charlie some questions about this topic that either, I don't know about or that I may have a few issues with. From what needs to change in UK gamekeeping to help biodiversity, why burning heather is a thing & what Charlie believes needs to happen in order to put an end to UK bird crime. Not all the answers sat well with me, I challenged where I could & I listened, that's what I ask you to do too.
If you'd like to keep up to date with Charlie & his work, you can do so via the Fieldsports YouTube channel.

Captive Reintroductions with Pete Cooper
Monday May 10, 2021
Monday May 10, 2021
"LET'S JUST GET THEM BACK IN THE WILD!" Sure, it's an easy sentence to say & definitely easy to believe but, how easy is it? This week I chat with with ecologist & naturalist Pete Cooper about how animals can go from enclosures, to the wild.
Pete goes into great detail of the reasons why we look at reintroductions of a species & what part that can play in the local ecosystems. I also ask Pete what animals he is most optimistic about making a comeback to the wilderness of the UK.

When we think of the youth fighting to save the planet, we think of the Greta's of the world. Starting & joining marches, creating petitions & talking with the decision makers, all very important stuff, but sometimes, the youth go at it a different way.
This week I spoke with Tom & Harvey. Two young, enthusiastic & inspiring conservationists that are running & creating a European reptile & amphibian captive breeding center, in order to release species back into the UK or to improve current populations.
I was blown away by the knowledge & maturity when talking to them both. I did also take the opportunity to ask them what they thought of the criticism their project got from some voices in the conservation world, safe to say I enjoyed their answer.

Let's Talk About Seaspiracy with Jaida Elcock & Marine Cusa
Monday Apr 19, 2021
Monday Apr 19, 2021
Well, everyone else is talking about it so I thought I would too!
Seaspiracy, a film that needed to be made but when it was, was it done right or were there missed opportunities & misinformed messages? I certainly felt like there was but I don't work with the ocean so I thought I should get some help. My guests this week to answer my questions about this FISHY documentary were science communicator & co-founder of MISS- Elasmo, Jaida Elcock & marine biologist who is working to prevent illegal fishing, Marine Cusa.
I was keen to ask Jaida & Marine what points of the film they thought were good & what points they felt were.....not so spot on. Jaida explains to us the importance of getting the communication right & why certain messages in the film may not be the right ones to be pushing, whilst Marine rights some of the wrongs regarding talks about some NGO's in the film.
There's lots to unpack on this episode but let me remind you this show is not here to change your mind on Seaspiracy. This episode is here to add to the research you are hopefully doing on the topic of sustainable fishing & marine conservation.

In it for the Planet with Roxy Furman
Monday Apr 12, 2021
Monday Apr 12, 2021
Considering this is episode 54, I think I should win a medal for this being the first time I have actively discussed veganism with a guest (I type I as sit here in a t-shirt that says "Vegan Babe".)
This week I chat with wildlife presenter & filmmaker Roxy Furman. Talking all about her love for African painted dogs to her transition to a vegan lifestyle & how this incorporates into her wildlife filmmaking. Of course we also, vegan to vegan, share our pet hates about meat eaters & other vegans!

Youth Environmental Activism with James Miller
Monday Apr 05, 2021
Monday Apr 05, 2021
The environment has always, for what I can remember, needed protecting & needed a voice. In the last few years, no voice has been louder & clearer than that of the youth generation. This week I am joined by campaigner & environmental activist, James Miller.
James shares how it is talking with such high level decision makers & where he thinks the UK has gone wrong but also what options we have available. I was also dying to ask James what it was like to address Parliament for the RSPB's Green Recovery Plan & how the idea came up for two online concerts to raise money for Reserva last year.

What's Happening in the Bahamas? with Niel Leadon
Monday Mar 29, 2021
Monday Mar 29, 2021
The Bahamas. A place we all know we want to go to but we rarely hear about when it comes to the environment or wildlife. What's happening out there? What wildlife can you see? What challenges is it facing? Well on this episode I talk with Bahamian activist & conservationist Niel Leadon.
Niel sheds some warm Bahamian sunlight on what wildlife you can see, what issues there are surrounding it whilst also telling us what kind of solutions are often used with these problems. Niel talks specifically about a project he worked on recently where he campaigned to stop oil drilling off the coast of the Bahamas & told me what the outcome of this was.

Frogs of New Orleans with Gina Zwicky
Monday Mar 22, 2021
Monday Mar 22, 2021
If you suffer from nature envy, go into this episode with a little caution, I wish I had! This week I am joined by naturalist, biologist & photographer, Gina Zwicky as we trek through the swamps & over the boardwalks of New Orleans to talk about Frogs & other incredible wildlife in the city.
Gina dives straight in telling me why she has this strong love for our green friends, the variety that can be found around her house & how close they are to her own doorstep. We also learn on an awesome citizen science programme called FrogWatch that supplies families, groups & communities with the tools & opportunities to go looking & hearing out for different frogs in order to collect data. (I love stuff like that).
