Monday Nov 07, 2022
Monday Nov 07, 2022
We've spoken a lot about rewilding or species reintroduction recently & that's partly down to it being a very exciting topic, so to keep that theme going, this week we are chatting about wild boar & their existence in the UK.
To help tell me about the story of these wonderful woodland animals is someone who has spent a long time researching the history of them & the benefits & challenges they may bring, is environmentalist Chantal Lyons.

Monday Oct 31, 2022
The UK is famous for a lot, but one thing many around the world may not think of when they think of us is the fact we had & have now lost a lot of species throughout the years. One place I have visited that really shows you what we have/hand roaming this land is Wildwood Trust in Kent.
To tell me all about this fascinating wildlife collection of native or once native species & the projects they are working on is director, Paul Whitfield. From how the place started to their most recent big project, the semi release of Bison into ancient woodland.

Monday Oct 24, 2022
If you say the word "wasp" you're rarely met with a response like "gah I just love them" however, it only takes a little peek into the world of wasps for someone to learn that there is MUCH more than meets the social opinion of them.
To join me this week to share the diverse world & love of the wasp is Professor Seirian Sumner. From Seirian's favourite species to the mad behaviours of some others, we even discuss why people have certain feelings about thee wonderful insects.

Living with Wolves with Hanna Petterson
Monday Oct 17, 2022
Monday Oct 17, 2022
When we talk of a wolf, a number of things could come to mind. Maybe a folklore store? A character in a childhood film? An image of a woodland with a huge moon in the background? Or I'd imagine, for most of this audience, we think of an animal of great importance, both culturally & environmentally. A lost animal in the UK & throughout Europe, but one that is also coming back, to Europe that is.
Yet, do we consider how difficult or easy this can be? To bring back the wolf? What has to be done or considered & who has to be spoken to? Well one person that has spent a long time working that out is conservation social scientist Hanna Petterson & Hanna joins me on this show to have this very chat with me.

Into The Wild in Namibia Part 1
Monday Oct 10, 2022
Monday Oct 10, 2022
If you follow us on social media, you'll know that I recently got back from a trip to Namibia to screen our first ever film, Beyond The Trigger. Now what kind of podcaster would I be if I didn't grab some insightful wildlife conservation chats with people on my travels.
With that in mind I am super excited to share with you the first part of this special episode, Into The Wild in Namibia. In this episode, actually recorded at the later part of my trip, I travelled along with CEO of NACSO (Namibian Association for Community Based Natural Resource Management Support Organisations), Maxi Louis to a conservancy called ≠Gaingu, where I got to chat with the newly appointed conservancy manager Neville Hendricks about life as a farmer & how valuing wildlife has helped the community & the surrounding biodiversity.

Dogs & Wildlife with Zoe Macdonald & Sean McCormack
Monday Oct 03, 2022
Monday Oct 03, 2022
I LOVE wildlife.......but I LOVE dogs. My two jobs, the podcast & running a professional dog walking company both (obviously) envolve, heavily, these two things, but do they, or can they, go together happily?
There's always a lot of chat about how much domestic dogs disturb wildlife or damage habitat & the answers always seem to be lost in amongst the arguments so I decided to mix the two sides together & have vet & conservationist Sean McCormack on to tell us about what the issues are & then to have professional dog walker, dog trainer & business owner Zoe Macdonald on to tell us dog owners, the best ways we can be walking our dogs without allowing them to disturb or damage wildlife.
Write to your MP to voice your anger about the #AttackOnNature here

Hedgehogs with Hugh Warwick
Monday Sep 26, 2022
Monday Sep 26, 2022
I don't think I've ever met someone that saw a hedgehog & didn't shout "OMG THAT IS CUTE AF" but more importantly, this reaction is getting rarer & not because hedgehogs in the UK are getting less cute of course, but because sightings are becoming way less.
To join me on this journey learning more about this much loved UK animal is hedgehog expert, severe enthusiast & science communicator Hugh Warwick. Hugh's passion for these animals & the natural world is incredibly clear & I adored chatting with him about this fab animals, I know you will too.

A Look at Knepp Estate with Penny Green
Monday Sep 19, 2022
Monday Sep 19, 2022
One place in the UK that has really shown the way & challenged the status quo in food production & land management is Knepp Estate. From an old farm to now a place that has restored nature & reintroduced a huge list of species, Knepp is now a semi wild environment that is seeing seasonal visitors (both animal & human) return for a visit.
To tell me more about this heaven for wildlife, is Knepp's ecologist Penny Green. Penny shares the behind the scenes management of what keeps this place going & the work involved.

And so we've come to the last episode recorded at Global Birdfair 2022 & what better way to end other than with a chat with the founder of the event, Tim Appleton.
Before I went to GBF I had heard all kinds of things about the event regarding issues with diversity, not enough talk of the climate crisis & the fact that it doesn't seem to tackle the right issues in nature, so I wanted to talk to Tim about how & why this event was set up & what he sees changing, if anything, in the future.
